Top Rated Student Laptops (Feb 2010)

Unless you are a design student that needs to constantly use heavy-duty applications (Photoshop, etc), most entry-level or mid-range laptops will prove to be more than sufficient for the average student. Here is a quick list of some of the best student laptop models.

Although I am usually a fan of huge laptops, I also understand the need for laptops to be reasonably portable, especially for students who often travel around with their laptops. If you are looking for a laptop model to take notes, do some research, make presentations and surf the web, do consider getting a netbook. They are extremely portable and very affordable. If you have no problems with their small screens and slightly smaller keyboards, netbooks would make excellent student laptops. The Asus Eee 1005PE 10.1-inch netbook is currently on of the latest and best netbooks in the market.

If you don't mind lugging around a little extra weight around with you, do consider getting a full-featured entry-level/mid-range laptop. Most of the models would come with at least a 2.1Ghz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 250GB for storage. The usually comes with DVD drives, memory card readers and whole host of other features that will prove to be useful for schoolwork. The larger models (15-inch or larger) are more affordable than the smaller laptops. You can get yourself one of these for around 0-0 per unit. The Toshiba Satellite L505-S5993 15.6-inch model is a great example of such a laptop.

If you have a little extra cash to spare, you may consider getting an ultra-portable laptop. These laptops are usually very slim and are no heavier than 3.8 pounds. They look gorgeous and have a high 'cool' factor. They only catch is that they are usually not as powerful as full featured laptops and most of them don't come with any DVD drives. Nevertheless, they would prove to be very capable for taking on everyday school tasks. An example of a great ultra-portable laptop model would be the Asus UL30A-X5 13.3-inch laptop.
